Snow In Monterey Park
Snow covered the ground in Barnes Park on December 13 celebrating the Christmas Holiday Season. Santa stood on his skis ready to fly down the hill to the delight of the young and old.
Several hundreds of residents and their guests enjoyed a chance to play in the snow and enjoy hot cider, hot chocolate and cookies.
The stage was dressed up with large gift packages, Santa and his sleigh. Carmela and Rick Burroughs lent these life size ornaments to the city for this special night.
Santa joined the snow scene after he arrived on a fire truck and watched the Christmas tree lit up in front of City Hall. He visited with his friends of all ages. The lines to visit Santa and the snow were long but everyone waited for their turn.
Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian, Mayor Pro Tem Anthony Wong, Councilmembers Hans Liang and Peter Chan and City Clerk Vince Chang greeted everyone and welcomed them to this special occasion. They wished the residents a Merry Christmas. Councilmember Mitch Ing visited the snow site before he left for another special event. City Treasurer Joseph Leon and City Manager Paul Talbot joined in the festivities.
Mayor Real Sebastian joined her Snow Committee Carol Sullivan, Shirley Hwong, Maryanne Barlow and Rick Burroughs. They organized the Holiday Snow Village with the assistance of Carmela Burroughs, Troy Grant and the city staff.
Students from Rice Elementary School Choir entertained the crowd with several Christmas carols and a Hanukkah song.
Students from Garvey Intermediate School Choir sang several old Christmas favorites to spread the joy of the season.
Members of Schurr High School Band energized the night with traditional carols.
Children of all ages joined in the fun singing, ringing bells and popping large confetti filled poppers at the end the celebration.
Mayor Real Sebastian thanked the audience and wished everyone a Merry Christmas. This is the first time we enjoyed snow for Christmas and hopes that we can continue this tradition next year.
