2024 Lunar New Year Celebration in Monterey Park
Perry Nee was the Master of Ceremonies during Monterey Park’s celebration held on Garvey Avenue on January 27th and 28th.
He welcomed the residents and the guests to our Annual New Year’s Celebration for the “Year of the Dragon” in both Chinese and English.
Danny Salas and Jasmine Arjon from the Garvey School District introduced members of the Woodcraft Rangers to the audience.
Dancers from Garvey Intermediate School performed several dances to the delight of the audience.
Dancers from Rice Elementary School performed several dances at the festival.

Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong welcomed the elected officials, the residents and the guests to Monterey Park to celebrate our Annual Lunar Celebration. It is the “Year of the Dragon”.
The flag of our United State was on display as Sam Ll sang our National Anthem.
Mayor Pro Tem Wong read off the names of the 11 people killed on January 21st last year at the Star Ballroom. He asked for a Moment of silence for them.
He stated Mayor Jose Sanchez was ill and he introduced Councilmembers Vinh Ngo, Yvonne Yiu and Henry Lo, City Clerk Maychelle Yee and City Treasurer Amy Lee to the guests.
Katherine Lu, President of the World Journal, welcome everyone to our Annual Lunar New Year Celebration. It is the “Year of the Dragon”. This is the year of Good Fortune, Prosperity, Great Happiness and Good Health. She wished everyone a Very Happy New Year!
Elizabeth Yang, a Member of BIDAC, welcomed the guests to our Annual Lunar Celebration. This part of down town is called the BIDAC district. She thanked the World Journal and the city for sponsoring this event. She thanked the guests for attending this special event. The “Year of the Dragon” is celebrated with Joyfulness and Prosperity!
Congressmember Judy Chu wished everyone a Happy New Year! She thanked the World Journal and the city of Monterey Park for sponsoring this event. We are working together after the shootings last year to bring people together. She thanked Brandon Tsay for stopping the shooter in Alhambra. She thanked our Fire and Police Departments for their service. We must always honor all of those people who stepped in to help. She thanked all of the First Responders and the Elected Officials who helped us out at the time of the tragedy. We are a resultant group. Please support each other.

She thanked the small business owners in the San Gabriel Valley for their support.

Assemblymember Mike Fong welcomed the guests to the Monterey Park Lunar New Year Celebration. Happy New Year! He is requesting the State make the Lunar New Year a State Holiday. It is the “Year of the Dragon”. He wished eveone a Happy and Healthy New Year!

Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong asked the other Elected Officials on the stage to please step up and wave to the audience when he read their names.
All of the Elected Officials held a “Stop the Hate Banner” to all of the guests to see and held on to the Red Ribbon that was cut to make the beginning of the festival.
The Lions Dancers begged for Red Envelopes and Lettuce from the Elected Officials. They danced to the delight of all. They also wished everyone a Very Happy New Year!
The lonely Dragon was waiting his turn to dance down the road.
The festival was located on Garvey Avenue and it extended from Garfield Avenue to Alhambra Avenue.
Several booths offered information on local services provide to our community.
Many guests enjoyed the live entertainment on stage that included dancers, Chinese Music, games, singers and more.
Several thousands of guests enjoyed shopping for good food, jewelry, clothing, gifts, flowers and more at the Monterey Park Lunar New Year’s Celebration.
