National Night Out in Monterey Park
Lt. Paul Villalobos welcomed the residents to Monterey Park’s National Night Out celebrated August 1st in Barnes Park. We are here to share our night in safety working with the Police Department. He thanked the vendors for supporting this special event.
Members of the Monterey Park Police Explorers presented our colors.
Sgt. Arlene Chaidez led our Flag Salute.
Laurene Kinkade-Wong sang our National Anthem.
Chaplain Richard Chuman thanked God for protecting all of our Police Department. We are grateful for them being being safe. Our Police Department serves our community. He asked God to bless our residents and our police officers.
Police Chief Scott Wiese said we are here to protect our community with our partnerships. We should go forward to become a strong community after the January 21st tragedy. It is great to be here to celebrate National Night Out. Please visit our vendors and visit our employees tonight.
Mayor Jose Sanchez welcomed all to our National Night Out. We will work together with our Police Department to keep us save. Please thank our Police Department for keeping us safe. They are here for us.
Congressmember Judy Chu welcomed everyone to our National Night Out. We are here to thank our first responders who saved lives on January 21st. First responders from other cities stepped up to help out at the Star Ballroom. It is gratifying to see our first responders who make sure we are safe. She thanked them! She also said the she secured a federal grant for $1,000,000 to upgrade Fire Station One.
Congressmember Judy Chu presented a Proclamation to Police Chief Scott Wiese in honor of the event.
Assemblymember Mike Fong said he was very happy to connect with our Police Department to bring our city together. He thanked our Police Department and our Fire Department for protecting us on January 21st. They saved lives and we should remember the lives lost on that date.

Police Chief Scott Wiese posed for a group picture with Congressmember Judy Chu, Assemblymember Mike Fong, Mayor Jose Sanchez with his daughter, Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong, Councilmember Vinh Ngo, Councilmember Yvonne Yiu, Councilmember Henry Lo, City Clerk Maychelle Yee and City Treasurer Amy Lee in honor of this event.
Rock Tops played Golden Oldies to the delight of the residents who were dancing in the park.
Members of American Legion Post 397 and members of Boy Scout Troop 329 manned a booth advertising the many benefits of being a member of the post and being a Boy Scout.
The Monterey Park Library set up a booth to reminded the residents of the many services the library provides to the residents.
Members of the Boys & Girls Club manned a booth advertising Kindness should be shared with everyone.
The Greater Chamber of Commerce in Monterey Park had a booth advertising for new members from the business community.
The Monterey Park Womans Club was seeking new members to join their famous service club.
The Monterey Park Fire Department had their CERT trailer to advise the residents about their many services to the community.
Several members of our Monterey Park staff enjoyed our National Night Out in the park.

Members of the Monterey Park Police Department showed the residents our SWAT Team vehicles.
The Monterey Park Police Department flew our Drone over the event much to the delight of the crowd. It was reported that over 1,000 residents attended our National Night Out.
Corp. Gonzala Gabriel and his K-9 partner Cookiz to the audience. Cookiz is a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois. She helps the Police Department in finding lost people and arresting the criminals.
Officer Pena asked a driver to stop his car and get out of it as he was instructed. Since the suspect did not obey him so he to call in our SWAT Team to stop him.
Out SWAT Team arrived with flashing lights and sirens blaring in this demonstration.
They surrounded his car and tried to talk him into exiting his car.
When the suspect failed to do so them Cookiz did her job and dragged the suspect out of his car.
The crowd applauded our SWAT Team for keeping us safe from crime. Our SWAT Team works seven days a week to help keep us safe.
