Monterey Park Residents Thanked Their First Responders

Monterey Park Police Officers, Monterey Park Fire Fighters and Monterey Park Paramedics were honored by the City Council and the residents at the City Council Meeting on February 15th.

They were presented plaques of honor for their life saving actions at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio on January 21st.

Mayor Jose Sanchez thanked the Police  Department and Fire Department. We celebrated the Lunar New Year. Now 11 people died and 9 were wounded at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio that night. He thanked Brandon Tsay  for his bravery. He stood alone against hate and violence. We can dig deep in our soul. The police officers showed courage and the fire fighters showed courage to rescue the people. His students thanked the police officers, fire fighters and Brandon Tsay. We learned of their acts of courage.

Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong thanked the Fire Department and the Police Department. Our community feels pride in you. We all thank Brandon Tsay for his courage. It will take time to help  to heal. We are all in this together.

Councilmember Yvonne Yiu thanked the Police Department and the Fire Department. We need to be strong and hold each other’s hands. She thanked Brandon Tsay for his courage.

Councilmember Henry Lo said the first few weeks were hard for us to discuss the issue. The police officers and the fire fighters rendered aid. We have the best Police Department and the best Fire Department. We will reflect on the best in our community and Brandon Tsay. The President invited him and Brandon Tsay to join the State of the Union celebration. All of us share our faith.

Brandon Tsay was honored by the City Council and the residents at the same meeting.

He was presented with a plaque of honor for his heroic action taken against the shooter at the Lai Lai Dance Studio in Alhambra.

Brandon Tsay said  he is honored to receive this award. He is not a true hero. He believes said the men and women in uniforms are our true heroes.

Members of the Mark Keppel Alliance thanked our First Responders. They held up signs to thanked them for keeping us safe.

Andy Yam and Bobbie Bruesch from the Garvey School Board thanked the firefighters and police officers for keeping their students safe at their schools. They presented proclamations to them and gave them to the City Clerk.

A member of  Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’ staff  thanked the Monterey Park Police Department, the Monterey Park Fire Department, the City Council and Brandon Tsay  for their quick response. They provided the much-needed support for the  injured  guests and the residents.

Larry Sullivan from the Lions Club and Carol Sullivan and Katherine Torres from the Woman’s Club thanked the Fire Department and Police Department. We need to mentor mental health issues in our country.

Shirley Hwong thanked the police officers and fire fighters for their service to our community. They save lives. They saved her life after she had a reaction to her new medicine.

Boy Scout Leader Scott Hara thanked the Monterey Park Police Department and the Monterey Park Fire Department for their service to our community.  His scouts work with both of these departments. He also thanked Brandon Tsay for his courage. You would make a great Boy Scout.

Girl Scout Jade Sanderval thanked the police offices and the fire fighters for their service to our community. She will be selling Girl Scout cookies tonight to raise money for her Gold Award which is the highest award she can earn in Girl Scouts.

Teresa Real Sebastian said we are all sorry for the loss of life on January 21st. She thanked the Monterey Park Police Department and the Monterey Park Fire Department for their service. We have an Emergency Operations Center that help coordinated the many departments needed to help at the site. She thanked our city staff for their services.

Sarkus Antonian thanked the Police Department and the Fire Department for their service to our community. Monterey Park has a good history. Laura Scudder had her Potato Chip factory in our city. Please don’t put us on the map for this tragedy. We should always remember our history.

This celebration ended with refreshments that included coffee, bottled water and an assortment of delicious donuts.
