Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Monterey Park residents and their guests enjoyed the wonderful sights and sounds of the annual Cinco de Mayo celebration held at Barnes Park in 2019.
This year the celebration was cancelled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.
Happy Birthday Monterey Park!
Monterey Park was incorporated as a General Law City on May 29, 1916 by the majority vote of the male residents. Women did not win the right to vote in California until November 1, 1919 when California passed the 19th Amendment of the US Constitution.
The annual Play Days celebration and parade were cancelled because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
According to history the Spanish Flu Pandemic began in 1918 and ended in 1919.
The world was not shut down in 1918 and 1919 because of this Pandemic.
Since we are here to enjoy our lives in 2021 our ancestors must have survived this Pandemic.
