City Clerk Vince Chang and a member of the Play Days Committee welcomed the guests and residents to the103rd Birthday Party and Parade. The four-day event held on May 9th to May 12th featured Carnival rides, games, information booths, gift booths, live entertainment, fun and food trucks was located at Barnes Park.
He introduced Mayor Peter Chan, Councilmember Mitch Ing, Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian, former Mayor David Lau, State Senator Susan Rubio, Assemblymember Ed Chau, Supervisor Hilda Solis, Garvey School Boardmember Henry Lo, Rosemead Councilmember Sandra Armenta, Chamber President Dora Leung, Alhambra School Boardmember Bob Gin, Parade Grand Marshal Toni Harris (who could not attend due to a family emergency), Community Grand Marshal Susan Rubio and Honorary Grand Marshal Theresa Amador. Mayor Pro Tem Hans Liang was visiting Europe and sends his best wishes. Councilmember Stephen Lam was attending a family event and sends his best wishes.
He thanked the Monterey Park Woman’s Club for serving the Breakfast Bar and introduced the Play Day Committee and thanked them for their service.

Supervisor Hilda Solis thanked the city for inviting her to the party. She is very happy to represent the residents in the federal, state and local governments. She thanked Chamber and City Council. Happy Birthday Monterey Park!
Senator Susan Rubio said she is happy to be here to join in a common purpose. She is honored to join with Hilda Solis and Ed Chau. We all come together to celebrate. Happy Birthday! She presented proclamations to the Mayor Peter Chan, Councilmember Mitch Ing, Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian, City Clerk Vince Chang, Inez Alvarez and Robert Aguirre from the Recreation Department.
The Council presented Susan Rubio with plaque in honor of her participation as Community Grand Marshal.
Assemblymember Ed Chau wished Monterey Park a Happy Birthday! He called Monterey Park a vibrant city. He congratulated us for being the Third Best Place to live in the USA. We celebrate everyone’s culture.
He thanked the City Council, Play Days Committee, Grand Marshals Toni Harris, Susan Rubio and Theresa Amador and presented them with proclamations.
Community Grand Marshal Theresa Amador was honored by City Council and other elected officials with a plaque in honor of the day.
Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian requested that the audience and guests sing “Happy Birthday” to Monterey Park.
Vince Chang thanked the guests. Have fun in the Parade!
Members of the Monterey Police Explorer Post 300 began the parade as proud color guards.
Members of the Northern Shaolim Kung Fu Association provided the colorful Lion Dancers and the Golden Dragon to the delight of the crowd.
Members of the Monterey Park Historical Society wished the city Happy Birthday!
Mayor Peter Chan and his wife, Jenny enjoyed the ride and waved to the residents.
The Alhambra Unified All-District Marching Band, the local high schools, proudly marched in the birthday parade.
Councilmember Mitch Ing and his wife, Gloria enjoyed the spring weather and waved to the crowd.
Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian was joined by Armen, her husband, with their dogs, other dog owners and their dogs as they walked down the road. They are requesting that the city have a Dog Park.
Cheerleaders from the Boys & Girls Club of the West San Gabriel Valley join in the celebration.
City Clerk Vince Chang enjoyed his ride down the road as he waved to the audience.
Piggy and Elephant joined members of the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library staff as they carried signs providing important information about the library.
Members of the Monterey Park Woman’s Club founded in 1915 celebrated the city’s103rd birthday party.
Honorary Grand Marshal Theresa Amador, a longtime resident and volunteer, waved to the crowd as she rode down the street.
Members of the US Kung Fu Center showed off their martial arts skills to the delight of the audience.
Skippy Dee Klown always joins in the fun as he greeted the kids on the parade route.
Community Grand Marshal Senator Susan Rubio attended her first city parade. She waved to the residents as she rode down the way.
Members of the Woodcraft Rangers Dance Team from Dewey Avenue Elementary School enjoyed the parade.
Supervisor Hilda Solis was happy to join in the party as she waved to her old friends and new friends in the city.
Police Chief Jim Smith and his children joined the parade.
Fire Chief Scott Haberle enjoyed his ride down the road.
Quint 61 shared the road as the firefighters showed off our largest fire engine. The kids of all ages enjoyed watching the truck and noticed the driver in the back of the truck.
Former Mayor David Lau with members of the San Gabriel Valley Entrepreneur Lions Club joined the parade. Their club provided free popsicles for the kids along the parade route.
Members of the Monterey Park Pony Baseball and USA Softball Clubs walked as one team with their parents down the way.
Horses from Rancho La Laguna danced to the beat with their riders dressed in traditional costume. The crowd went wild to see horses on the streets of Monterey Park.
Members of the Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church joined their neighbors in celebrating the city’s birthday.
Members of the 2019 Miss Los Angeles Chinatown Court shared in the celebration.
Antique Autos were driven down the street with pride as the Greater Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce sponsored them.
Members of Rice Elementary Woodcraft Rangers joined the party.
Members of the Hillcrest Elementary Woodcraft Rangers joined their fellow rangers in the parade.
Members of the Five Family Kung Fu Academy shared in the fun.

Pageantry Parades conducted the parade. The parade included several school marching bands, dancers, drill teams and novelty acts.
California Premier Judging Association judged the participants on their performances.
Chick Fil A joined in the party and asked all of the guests to say, “Eat more chicken”.
Some lucky people received a free “Chicken” stuffed animal.
Orlando Muro from the Recreation Department introduced Mayor Peter Chan and City Clerk Vince Chang to the audience. They handed out the awards to all of the winners. Some of the participants were not able to attend the ceremony.
The Mayor’s Award was presented to the Five Family Kung Fu Academy. This award is given best local unit.
The Drill Team Sweepstakes Award was presented to Dana Middle School Band since they were the highest scoring drill team in the parade.
The Musical Sweepstakes Award was presented to Dana Middle School Band since they were the highest scoring band in the parade.
Members of Rice, Dewey and Hillcrest won the three awards for the Dance Teams.
Members of Kranz Intermediate won several awards for their fine performances.
