Bob Gin, President of the Library Foundation dressed as the White Rabbit at the Alice in Wonderland Tea Party celebrated on April 6th in the library.

Jason Dhing, a member of the Board of Trustees dressed as the Mad Hatter at the party. The room was decorated with playing cards, signs pointing the way to Wonderland and round tables decorated for 110 guests.

Margaret Leung and Theresa Amador, Vice President of the Library Foundation joined in the celebration.

The Main table was decorated with a chocolate fountain, strawberries, marshmallows, little cakes, fresh fruit and more.

Bob Gin welcomed everyone to the Second Annual Tea Party to raise funds to support our library. The Foundation has been raising money for the Career Center with new computers and is currently working on upgrading the Teen Center as well as other programs.

He introduced Foundation members: Theresa Amador – Vice President, Dolores Rillos – Treasurer, Kristen Phung – Secretary, Alicia Martinez and Carol Sullivan to the audience.

He introduced the Board of Trustees: David Barron, Jason Dhing, Andrew Yam, Larry Sullivan and Lisa Duong to the audience.

He introduced the Friends of the Library: Nancy Ishino-Gilmore – President, Rosalie Toltzman – Vice President, Lilian Kawaratani – Treasurer, Ellen Johannsen – Secretary, Lorraine Esparza – Bookstore Liaison and Tiffany Guan – Junior Friends President to the audience.

Bob Gin thanked them for their support of our library.

Diana Garcia, Acting City Librarian thanked all of the members and volunteers for their time. This is National Library Week (April 7th to 13th). Monterey Park is an incredible community with our elected officials and service clubs. She thanked them for doing these fundraising for our community.

Howard Lee and members of the Monterey Park Kiwanis Club donated a check for $5,000 to the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library for the library programs. Bob Gin and Diana Garcia accepted this generous donation.

Former Mayor Anthony Wong, CEO of the Chinese American Elected Officials donated a check for $5,999.58 to the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library for the library programs in the company of former Mayor David Lau, Mayor Peter Chan, Mayor Pro Tem Hans Liang and Councilmember Stephen Lam. Bob Gin and Diana Garcia accepted this generous donation.

Bob Gin introduced the elected officials: Mayor Peter Chan, Mayor Pro Tem Hans Liang, Councilmember Stephen Lam, former Mayor David Lau, former Mayor Anthony Wong, former Assemblymember Mike Eng, former City Clerk Theresa Amador, former City Clerk Dave Barron and Alhambra Mayor Adele Andrade-Stadler to the guests.

Theresa Amador welcomed the guests to the party. She said to enjoy the delicious food and the good company. Two of the lucky guests would win the door prizes.

The guests dressed up for the Tea Party enjoyed the delicious food with hot tea as well as good conversation. They met old friends and made new friends while raising funds for our library.

Members of the Mark Keppel Aztec Singers provided entertainment for the event under the direction of Brandan Cheng and Elizabeth An. The group has 35 active members.  Councilmember Stephen Lam joined them in the picture.
