Snow Fun In Monterey Park
Snow covered a portion of Barnes Park on December 4th. It was banked for a two-sled run waiting for children of all ages to enjoy.
Snow also covered a play area ready for snowball fights, snow angles and building small snowmen.
Santa’s helpers included Teresa Real Sebastian, Margaret Leung, Elizabeth Barajas, Evelyn Moreno, Julia Villagran, Jessica Ramos, Terry Valenzuela and Deanna Sewell.
Students from Schurr High School, dressed up for the holidays, played several
seasonal tunes. They opened for the man of the hour, Santa Claus.
Commissioner Margaret Leung and Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian welcomed the guests to the 3rd Annual Snow Village. They thanked all of the generous sponsors of this event.
Santa Claus arrived on a sled pulled by members of the Fire Department. He was greeted by hundreds of good boys and girls that included Councilmember Real Sebastian.
Santa welcomed his friends to join him for a quiet moment to hear their Christmas wishes.
The Grinch slipped out of the sled to the surprise of the audience. Members of his own fan club greeted him. He spent the evening running on and off the stage to the delight of the children.
Students from Rice Elementary School performed several animated holiday songs to the delight of their families and friends who packed the theatre seating for this celebration.
Children of all ages enjoyed the fast moving sled rides as they lined up for a second run.
City Treasurer Joseph Leon helped Councilmember Real Sebastian and Commissioner Margaret Leung with the raffle tickets for the lucky guests to win a Christmas tree.
The snow playground was filled with children and their parents having a good time.
Members of Garvey Intermediate School sang Christmas carols that were enjoyed by all.
Students from Mark Keppel High School sang and performed several skits that included one about Ms. Scrooge from “A Christmas Carol”. The audience was thrilled as “A Christmas Carol” is an old favorite of the season.
Students from Meher Montessori School dressed in Christmas colors sang several carols and were joined by the Grinch for their final song.
Councilmember Real Sebastian welcomed children to join them on the stage for the final act. They shot off the confetti cannons over the audience. She thanked the children, their parents, the staff; Santa and the Grinch for join them in this Christmas celebration. She wished everyone Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!
Approximately 4,000 residents and their guests enjoyed Monterey Park’s Snow Village. This is just one of the city’s many family events held every year.
Monterey Park will be 100-years old in 2016. Please join the city in the many celebrations held in honor of our hometown.
