Measure A final election results dated June 25 at 1:20 PM show that 4,349 of Monterey Park voters or 15.89% of our 27,373 registered voters decided the fate of 2015 Potrero Grande. The Olson Company only won by 187 votes.
The County Register Recorder stated that 2,268 voters approved the 80-unit project at that location. 2,081 voters said no to this project.
According to their Major Donor report filed with the city on May 27 they spent $120,879.31. Their yes votes cost them approximate $53.30 per vote to date. This report shows that they paid $20,000 to Los Angeles County as an election deposit and $7,000 to Water Boardmember Thomas Wong’s firm for marketing their project.
According to the City Clerk’s office the election results will be validated by the City Council during the July 16 meeting. The certified election results will be posted on the City Clerk’s webpage along with the final invoice from the county that is expected to be received in August. The Olson Company will have to file another Major Donor report stating the final costs paid to the county for their special election. It will be interesting to see the actual cost paid by Olson for each of their yes votes.
Our USA just celebrated its 238 birthday when we became a free and independent country. We enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We also enjoy the right to vote, which is our sacred duty to practice in our free and democratic country.
Generations of men and women have fought and died so we have the sacred right to vote in America. We had a very low voter turnout on June 3rd. Shame on you residents who did not bother to vote. What was your excuse?
