Mayor Mitch Ing, Vice Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian, Councilmembers David Lau and Anthony Wong approved the consent calendar during the Monterey Park City Council meeting on January 16.

Mayor Ing announced that he was boycotting this meeting in protest because he could no longer remain silent and watch one of the candidates for the March 5 election manipulate the residency requirement for office. He stated that he did not advise the city manager or city attorney of his actions before the meeting.

Vice Mayor Real Sebastian also announced that she was leaving the meeting because a candidate did not receive an invitation to the January 29 Meet the Candidate Forum. She cited her disappointment in a group of people who continue to manipulate city politics.

When it was noted that we no longer had a quorum to continue the meeting she made a snide remark if the Council had appointed a fifth member then we would have had a quorum.

City Clerk Dave Barron canceled the meeting for the lack of a quorum so the city business was not concluded that evening.

During the February 6 Council meeting I addressed the Councilmembers, staff and residents during Oral Communications.

I thanked Tilda De Wolfe and Terry De Wolfe for coordinating the Monterey Park Meet the Candidates Forum with the Soroptimists and the League of Women Voters.

This very successfully forum is being replayed on the city’s website and cable channels.

Monterey Park Mayor Mitch Ing and Vice Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian owe the residents, employees, business owners and guests an apology for walking out of the January 16 meeting and canceling it due to a lack of a quorum.

Their January paycheck should be docked for their failure to complete the city’s business at that meeting.

Mayor Ing if you have any proof that one of the candidates is not a resident then present it to the City Clerk for legal action. Our democracy allows any qualified voter to run for any elected office.

Vice Mayor Real Sebastian your candidate was not excluded from the forum because of corruption. His invitation was delayed because he did not provide his correct P O Box number.

Your remark that we should have allowed you to appoint another Councilmember for a quorum. Your attitude is why we, the voters, do not allow Councilmembers to appoint their cronies to the Council.

It you want to talk about corruption in Monterey Park than lets talk about the vendetta against Monterey Park since the 1980s when two former Councilmembers declared war on any residents, city employees or business owners who dared to speak out against them.

They have been destroying our hometown by intimidation, slander and harassment at City Hall and public meetings.

Currently our city manager, city attorney and two consultants are running our city as many of the department heads were forced out by their tactics.

Now they are trying to outsource our fire department to the county.

Vice Mayor if you have a couple of hours give me a call and I will give you a history lesson on the corruption of Monterey Park by elected officials and their cronies since the late 1940s.

To date I am still waiting for the Vice Mayor to call me.

March 5 is Election Day.  Please vote for the candidates of your choice.

As you vote please remember all of the men and women who sacrificed their lives and futures so we can be free to vote and enjoy our life in the Unites States of America.
