Monterey Park residents are you aware that some members of our City Council and City staff want to reduce the City Treasurer’s right to approve or deny any investments of our city funds?
“The City Treasurer is an elected position and is responsible to the electorate for overseeing the custody of the City monies and their disbursement upon order of the City Council” per our City Charter.
Yet on the November 17th Council Meeting Agenda had an item regarding Chandler Asset Management who the city may hire to change our investments from our two pools we currently utilized by that are LAIF and the Los Angeles County Investment Pool (LACIP) to other investments.
This controversial agenda item was pulled from the agenda.
I have several questions for this Council and staff about Chandler Asset Management.
If Chandler is only going to have a fidelity bond coverage of at least $10 million and have an Errors and Omissions insurance coverage of at least $10 million why will we give them $40 million or more of our hard-earned tax money?
What investments do they intend to change and will they be for more risky investments?
On the staff report stated following direction by the Treasury Committee, (City Treasurer, Joseph Leon; City Manager, Ron Bow; Assistant City Manager, Inez Alvarez and Director of Management Services, Martha Garcia;) the City Council delegates the authority to the Director of Management Services to open new bank accounts, investment and cash management accounts, and other credit enhancement products, closing bank accounts, investment and cash management accounts, and signing all documents related thereto.
We did not vote to have our City Council authorize a city employee titled Director of Management Services to manage our hard-earned tax dollars.
Since the Pandemic our City Hall has been closed to the public except by appointment so our Council Meetings are done on ZOOM or can be viewed on the city’s TV station.
Another crucial change is any written communications required to be sent to the City Clerk by close of business on the day before the scheduled Council Meeting so it can be added to the electronic equipment used by the Council and staff during the meetings.
Henry Lo will be Monterey Park’s new mayor and Fred Sornoso will be Monterey Park’s new mayor pro tem on December 28.
Where this event will take place has not yet been announced.
Maybe we can have the ceremony in the parking lot at City Hall or on the stage in Barnes Park.
Monterey Park voters living in District 1 and District 5 will be eligible to vote for their Councilmember in November 2022.
Jason Dhing has pulled his paper work to run for our City Council in District 1.
Thomas Wong has pulled his paper work to run for our City Council for District 1.
Several other candidates have not yet pulled their paper work for District 1 and District 5 for our next city election.
Councilmember Yvonne Yiu has pulled papers to run for our State Controller in the 2022 Election.
Yvonne Yiu is our Councilmember for District 2, who was elected to serve until 2024.
If Yvonne Yiu is successful in getting elected to that office, then our city will be required to have a Special Election to fill that seat in District 2.
Since we are now required to vote by districts, I don’t believe the Council can appoint a person living in District 2 to fill that position.
Have you noticed reading or watching the news that some people are becoming more hateful and more vengeful towards people who have different opinions from theirs?
There seems to be a group of “profession haters” who call other people names if they don’t agree with their viewpoints.
Many people are deciding to think for themselves and discounting the “professional haters”.
Several city and state elections across our United States have begun to trend towards conservatism.
Watching on news on television or the Internet or reading the newspapers you have seen or read about the various department stores, drug stores, grocery stores and other stores looted by vandals who roam in packs like hyenas or coyotes ready to steal anything they want because our law enforcement officers have been handcuffed by some Progressive or Socialist or Communists Elected Officials.
These Elected Officials want to destroy our economy, close down local businesses and cancel our United States citizens who are living our American Dream.
Have you noticed these thugs or hooligans are arrested and many are released on Low or No Bail by some Progressive or Socialist or Communists Elected Officials?
Many American citizens are very angry that these vandals, these rapists and these killers are released to prey on us taxpayers across our United States.
For many Conservative Americans the 2022 Elections cannot come fast enough to cancel out these Progressive or Socialist or Communists Elected Officials.
It you have been following World History you would realize that many great governments have been destroyed from within.
I hope that our United States citizens realize how close we are coming to be destroyed by members of the Progressive or Socialist or Communists parties in our home country.
“Edmund Burke, the Irish philosopher and politician, penned these words: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” Burke’s statement was made in the 18th century, but it still holds true today.”
Please be sure to call or write your Elected Officials and voice your concerns to them about the evils that are destroying our America.
“The proverb God helps those who help themselves means it is important to take responsibility for right action; it is important to exert some effort in a situation and not leave the outcome up to fate.”
Please consider the fate of our United States of America and do your part to save our homeland from the Progressive or Socialist or Communists parties that are busy trying to destroy us in the name of their evil “One World Order”.
May God continue to bless our United States of America and all of us.
Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
