SINCE THE HISPANIC POPULATION EXCEEDED THE WHITE POPULATION WHY ARE THE HISPANICS STILL A PROTECTED MINORITY?

By Nancy C Arcuri, Editor and Publisher

Protected classes are created by both federal and state law. The original FHA had only five protected classes—race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. An amendment in 1988, however, added handicap and familial status to the protected classes. Nov 11, 2019

Latino Population In California To Surpass Non-Hispanic Whites In March 2014

“This month, Latinos are projected to surpass the number of non-Hispanic whites living in California and become the state’s largest racial or ethnic population.”

“Latinos are expected to make up 39 percent of California’s population, edging past non-Hispanic whites, who will make up 38.8 percent. This places California as the second state, behind New Mexico, where Latinos make up the largest percentage of any racial or ethnic group.”

“In 2015, California had the largest ethnic/racial minority population in the United States. Non-Hispanic whites decreased from about 76.3 – 78% of the state’s population in 1970 to 36.6%% in 2018.”

“The new data represents a historic shift over a short period of time. California has six times as many Hispanics today as it did in 1970. The number of non-Hispanic whites in the state has declined since 1970. July 1, 2015”

If these figures reflect the current Hispanic population versus the current White population in California are correct then why are Hispanics considered a protected class?

I guess it is time for the Federal government and California government to review this legal issue and determine if a Majority race in California can still be considered a Protected class?
