Letter to the Editor
Letter to the Editor – November 11, 2009
Dear Editor:
Once again, a special “thank you” to principal Kathi Perini, teacher Francine Schwartz and the wonderful second graders of Emperor School in Temple City who faithfully make cards for the veterans on Veterans’ Day and Memorial Day. The poster made this year for Veterans’ Day said “We Honor Our Veterans”, was signed with handprints and names, and was placed in the VFW hall in Monrovia. The cards were given out to the veterans at the City of Monrovia and San Gabriel Valley Inflatable Water Slide Allied Veterans’ Council Veterans’ Day program and dedication of the new Veterans’ Memorial at Library Park in Monrovia. The cards especially brought smiles from the veterans receiving them as they read the personal thoughts of the children, i.e., “Thank you for our Freedom” or “Thank you for your Service to my Country”. My thought for Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day next year is to encourage the parents of these children to bring them to the program so that they can present the cards personally to all the veterans! National Education Week is in November – it is important that we also remember to thank the dedicated teachers who every day teach America’s future, our young people, spending many hours “above and beyond” to provide a fine education for all our children and to help maintain patriotism and love of country for the greatest nation in the world
