Reading for the Record

Norma Arvizu, Monterey Park City Librarian, welcomed approximately 80 young children with their parents or grand parents to Reading for the Record on October 21 in the Friends Room.

Each participant received Bunny Rabbit ears to go with the story “Bunny Cakes”. Every child should learn how important is it to read.

Acting Children’s Librarian Diana Garcia began to read “Bunny Cakes” by best selling author and illustrator Rosemary Wells. She had children of all ages involved with the story line, pictures and her props.

Bunny Cakes is a story based on the lives of little brother Max and his older sister, Ruby.  In this book they are in the process of baking a birthday cake for their grandmother.

The Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library was thrilled to participate once again in the record-breaking event, which supports early literacy awareness and school readiness said Diana Garcia.

Each child enjoyed cupcakes in keeping with the theme of the story and a copy of “Bunny Cakes” for their own home library.
