On October 8th, Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park) collaborated with the Alhambra Unified School District’s Gateway to Success Program and the Alhambra High School PTA on a Social Media Safety Workshop, at Alhambra High School, to discuss privacy and safety issues online with parents and students from throughout the 49th Assembly District.

“As Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Privacy, I believe that we need to create a right balance between the enormous opportunities that come with access to the internet and the need to protect the privacy of our students and teach them, and their families, how to avoid cyber-bullying and cyber-predators,” said Assemblymember Chau.

At the workshop, attendees heard a presentation by Sarah Dalton, from the Privacy Enforcement and Protection Unit of the Attorney General’s office, on tips for safe and responsible behavior in the online social environment for children, both at school and at home. Parents also heard presentations from local law enforcement officials representing the San Gabriel Valley Social Media Task Force and the Alhambra Unified School District’s Gateway to Success Program.

Assemblymember Chau represents the 49th Assembly District, comprised of the communities of Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City and portions of Montebello and South El Monte.
