Tax News
MARK J. SALADINO, Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector, pursuant to Sections 2609 and 2610 of the California Revenue and Taxation Code (R&TC), announces that annual secured property tax bills will be mailed on or before November 1, 2014, to all property owners at the addresses shown on the tax roll. The R&TC does not relieve a taxpayer of the responsibility to make timely payments due to failure to receive a tax bill. Therefore, property owners who have not received a bill by November 1, 2014, should call us on our automated voice mail service at 1(213) 893-1103 to request a Substitute Secured Property Tax Bill.
Substitute Secured Property Tax Bills are also available in our office, located at the
Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration, 225 North Hill Street, First Floor Lobby, Los Angeles, California 90012, and at each office of the County Assessor. Property tax information is also available on our website at lacountypropertytaxcom.
First Installment of the 2014-15 property taxes is due on November 1, 2014, and will become delinquent if payment is not received by 5:00 p.m., Pacific Time or United States Postal Service (USPS) postmarked by December 10, 2014. Thereafter, a 10 percent penalty will be imposed.
Second Installment of the 2014-15 property taxes is due on February 1, 2015, and will become delinquent if payment is not received by 5:00 p.m., Pacific Time or USPS postmarked by April 10, 2015. Thereafter, a 10 percent penalty and a $10 cost will be imposed.
Both installments may be paid when the first installment is due.
Pay Online – To make payments online, go to lacountypropertytax.com, and select “Pay Online” under “Payment Options.” There is no charge for electronic check payments. You will need to use a Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is printed on the annual property tax bill, to complete the transaction. Each transaction is limited to $999,999.99. You may also pay online
by using a credit card or VISA debit card. However, there are processing fees when paying by credit/debit card. Each transaction is limited to $99,999.99, including all service fees. Electronic payments can be made 24/7 and payments are accepted until 11:59 p.m., Pacific Time on the delinquency date.
Mailed Payments – Taxpayers are advised to use the envelope enclosed in their annual secured property tax bill and include the payment stub from the bill. If paying both installments, please include both payment stubs. Do not attach staples, clips, tape, or correspondence. Payments may be mailed to the Los Angeles County Treasurer and Tax Collector, Post Office Box 54018, Los Angeles, California 90054-0018. If mailing your payment near the delinquency date, be sure to obtain a certificate of mailing from the USPS to reflect a timely payment. If a payment is received after the delinquency date, with no postmark, the payment is considered
late and penalties will be imposed, in accordance with State law. Taxpayers who send a payment by mail are cautioned that the USPS only postmarks certain mail depending on the type of postage used, and may not postmark mail on the same day deposited by a taxpayer. To assist taxpayers in understanding how to avoid penalties that could result from postmark issues, the Tax Collector has compiled important related information on how to “Avoid Penalties by Understanding Postmarks.” Visit our website at ttc.lacounty.gov/Proptax/Postmarks.htm.
You may use an independent delivery service that is an Internal Revenue Service designated delivery service (only Fed Ex, UPS or DHL), properly addressed with the required fee prepaid, delivery of which shall not be later than 5:00 p.m., Pacific Time on the next business day after the effective delinquency date.
