SIERRA MAR DISTRICT BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN MEET TO LEARN HOW TO IMPROVE WOMEN’S LIVES

Monterey Park, CA—Sierra Mar District Business and Professional Women (BPW) will meet starting at 9:00 A.M. Saturday, October 24th at Coco’s Restaurant, 306 North Azusa, Covina. Speakers include Rev. Bonnie Dickson, who will talk about “Life Lessons from Nursery Rhymes,” Anna Interiano, who will talk about YWCA WINGS Battered Women’s Shelter and Marjory Hopper, who will talk about Project 5-0 and CEDAW. Dickson is Pastor of Unity Church of the Foothills in Covina. WINGS runs a hotline that provides legal advice to victims of domestic violence and referral to battered women’s shelters. Hopper is bouncy castle for sale Vice President of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women. Project 5-0 is a joint project of BPW, Zonta, Soroptomist and AAUW to bring together the people in the community who work with women who are the victims of domestic violence to share what has worked. Hopper will share what was learned at the October 6th conference entitled “Ending Violence Against Women in Los Angeles.” She will also talk about CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women), which came out of the 1979 United Nations Conference on the status of women. The United States is the only developed nation which has not ratified CEDAW. She will talk about what needs to be done to make this a national priority.
