MONTEREY PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT

On September 06, 2009, at 2102 Hrs, the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to

577 Casuda Canyon Street, in the City of Monterey Park for a semi truck into a structure.

Monterey Park Fire units with the assistance of the Los Angeles City and Montebello fire Departments responded to the incident.

Upon arrival Monterey Park Fire units encountered a semi tractor with two dirt hauling

trailers that had struck the building. The tractor portion of the truck had entered a bed

room and was forced upward through the ceiling destroying the eastern portion of the

structure. The lone occupant of the structure, an elderly female was able to exit the

structure prior to our arrival with no injuries. A full USAR response was requested to

assist in rescuing the driver of the large truck, Montebello Fire Department USAR 55,

Los Angeles City Fire Department Heavy Rescue 56, and Montebello Fire Department

Engine 57, with a rescue dog, responded to the location. After an extensive search of

the building and the surrounding area it was determined that the driver of the truck had

left the scene of the incident prior to our arrival.

During rescue operations there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.

The Monterey Park Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
