New Fire Chief
City Clerk Vince Chang administered the oath of office to Scott Haberle on July 15 in the Monterey Park City Council Chambers in front of his family, friends, elected officials, residents and his fellow firefighters.
Battalion Chief Ken Leasure thanked everyone for attending the swearing in of Scott Haberle as our new fire chief.
City Manager Paul Talbot welcomed the guests to this special swearing in. He is grateful for all the work that these men and woman do for us. He introduced special guests that included the City Council, City Clerk, his department heads, Senator Ed Hernandez, members of the Garvey School Board, several fire captains and firefighters from fire departments around the area, members of the Rio Honda Fire Academy, Chambermembers and former elected officials.
Mr. Talbot introduced Scott Haberle to the residents. He began his career with Monrovia in 1992 and has held the ranks of firefighter/paramedic, fire inspector/investigator, fire captain, battalion chief and deputy fire chief. In addition to working on fire and emergency medical incident responses, Chief Haberle has coordinated and managed a number of specialized assignments ranging from fire prevention as the fire marshal, administration of the emergency medical services and operations division, the citywide disaster preparedness program including the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the emergency operations center. He has a master’s in public administration from the University of La Verne and has completed his Executive Fire Officer designation from the National Fire Academy.
Chief Haberle will lead Monterey Park’s department of 52 sworn fire personnel, three fire stations and an annual budget of over $11,000,000.
Mr. Talbot also thanked retired Fire Chief Jim Birrell for his 31 years of service to the city.
Mayor Anthony Wong, Mayor Pro Tem Hans Liang, Councilmembers Peter Chan, Mitch Ing and Teresa Real Sebastian and City Clerk Vince Chang welcomed Fire Chief Scott Haberle to the Monterey Park family.
Mayor Wong welcomed everyone to the beautiful city of Monterey Park. He thanked the guests for being witnesses to the swearing in of Scott Haberle. He thanked Jim Birrell for his service to Monterey Park from 1983 to 2014. He called Scott Haberle a great asset to Monterey Park. We how have a full team of managers. We will do the best we can. We have to work together for the best and be prepared for the worst. It will take teamwork for the health and safety of Monterey Park. He asked God to bless Monterey Park and America.
Mayor Pro Tem Liang called this evening a monumental event. He thanked all of the guests for being here. We are excited to work with Scott Haberle. He thanked Jim Birrell for his service. He said that the Haberle family has a right to be proud.
Councilmember Chan welcomed the audience to Monterey Park. He thanked Jim Birrell for his 31years of service. He congratulated Scott Haberle on becoming our new fire chief. We have a great fire department. We will be working together.
Councilmember Ing thanked everyone for coming to the swearing in of our new fire chief. He thanked Jim Birrell for his service. He thanked Scott Haberle for accepting the position to manage the great team. We are a family. He welcomed Scott Haberle and his family to Monterey Park.
Councilmember Real Sebastian thanked Jim Birrell for his service and for building the Emergency Operations Center. The bar is set very high. She asked Scott Haberle to do a good job for the community. Monterey Park is a unique city. She suggested the fire chief reach out to the community. She welcomed Scott Haberle to Monterey Park.
Jim Haberle had the honor of pinning the Fire Chief badge on his son, Scott Haberle.
Cathy Haberle and their children Skyler, Gavin and Logan had the honor of pinning the emblems of office on their husband and father, Scott Haberle.
Fire Chief Scott Haberle addressed the audience after City Clerk Vince Chang swore him into office. He thanked the city for this honor. He thanked his wife, Cathy for her love and support. He thanked his children for their love and support. He thanked his father for his love and support.
Chief Haberle thanked the Monrovia community for their support. He thanked the Monterey Park staff for their support. He thanked Jim Birrell for his outstanding service. He is honored to follow him. He is truly grateful. He thanked the guests for coming to this special event.
