Applications Being Accepted for The City of Monterey Park Personnel Board

The City of Monterey Park is seeking a Monterey Park resident to fill an open seat on the five-member personnel board for a four-year term that begins on July 1, 2014. The applicant is interviewed during a council meeting and appointed by city council. The appointee can also be reappointed for additional terms. Applications are requested by Friday, May 30, 2014.

The functions of the personnel board include responsibility for review of recruitment and selection procedures, hearing appeals of employee discipline and making recommendations regarding personnel rules and regulations. Board members are nonpaid volunteers.

The board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the city council chambers and meetings are usually one to two hours in length.

Applications are available at the city hall city clerk’s office at 320 W. Newmark Avenue, Monterey Park or from the city’s web site on the Boards & Commissions section at www.montereypark.ca.gov.

City of Monterey Park Unveils New Playgrounds at Pine Tree and La Loma Parks

The City of Monterey Park City Council unveiled new playground equipment at two local parks this week.

On Wednesday, May 14 at 11 a.m., the council joined local school children at Pine Tree Park, 2167 Arriba Drive, to officially open the brand new playground, as well as new ramps that will make the park more accessible.

On Thursday, May 15 at 10 a.m., the council gathered at
La Loma Park, 1950 Fulton Avenue, to dedicate the new playground there, which will also have increased accessibility.

The new playgrounds at both parks replaces equipment that was 30 or more years old. The new play areas are a part of the citywide Park Master Plan Capital Improvement Program which also includes two more playgrounds, three picnic shelters, irrigation, landscaping, lighting and a new outdoor basketball court.
