AN EVENING OF CELEBRATION; HONORING OUR LOCAL FOOD PANTRY
People for People
On Saturday March 1st Congresswoman Judy Chu joined supporters, volunteers, representatives of local community organizations, service clubs, churches, elected officials (including Monterey Park Council member Peter Chan) who came together to celebrate 30 years of service to our communities provided by People For People, our award winning food pantry that serves hundreds of families each month (nearly 1,000 families in Monterey Park and Alhambra alone in 2013) and the homeless year round in Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, Rosemead, Temple City and Arcadia.
Our area has an above average rate of unemployment. Increased demand for food services has developed due to changes in Federal policies for 2014, which cut both the unemployment compensation period and food stamps. People For People Director Noreen Rand has shared that the pantry has already experienced a surge in first time requests and many more new applicants will be extremely difficult to sustain at current contribution levels. People For People is located at 1311 E. Las Tunas Drive, San Gabriel 91776. They are open daily Tuesday through Friday.
They are in need of any resources you may provide; all contributions are fully tax deductible no amount is too small. How else can you help? Is your community group, club or church committed to be an active supporter of People For People in 2014? Volunteers are needed and welcomed to help at People For People call or email us wsgvccfoodpantry@aol.com. Donations of non-perishable food, infant formula, and fresh fruit are also encouraged. For more information on these and other needs please call 626-285-2549.
