DR. DIONNE ESPINOZA TO SPEAK TO EAST LOS ANGELES-MONTEBELLO BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN ABOUT GENDER STUDIES AT CAL STATE, LA
Dr. Dionne Espinoza, Director of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), will give an update to the East Los Angeles-Montebello BPW on gender studies at California State University, Los Angeles. Also with Dr. Espinoza will be students from the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance, who are in the Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program and who will speak about the need for a Major and a Department in WGSS at CSULA. The dinner meeting will be Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at the DoubleTree Hotel Restaurant, 888 Montebello Blvd., Rosemead (Networking starts at 4:30 P.M. with dinner to be selected from the menu to start before 5:00 P.M. Price depends on what

Dr. Espinoza was raised in the San Gabriel Valley area of Los Angeles. She is currently Coordinator of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Cal State University, Los Angeles. She has served on the board of director’s of the East Los Angeles Women’s Center and California Latinas for Reproductive Justice and as the Director of CSULA’s Center for the Study of Genders and Sexualities (2004-2008). She has published on the topic of Chicana activism and feminism in the social movements of the 1960s and 1970s. Her current areas of research and teaching interest center on contemporary feminist theories, the activism of young feminists of color and reproductive justice.
