Assemblymember Ed Chau Statement on Governor’s Budget Proposal
On January 9 Assemblymember Ed Chau released the following statement upon announcement of the Governor’s 2014-2015 State Budget proposal:
“The Governor has produced a budget that maintains stability and expands opportunities, which are the cornerstones of the Assembly Democrats Blueprint for a Responsible Budget.
In past years, I saw firsthand the impact that California’s economic struggles had on my constituents. I am pleased to hear that in order to withstand economic downturns, the Governor proposes paying into the state’s Rainy Day Fund, by capturing spikes in revenues, and paying down the Wall of Debt.
As we continue to strengthen the state’s long-term economy through responsible budgeting, it is equally important that we improve the lives of our constituents. To do so, the Governor proposes smart investments in education by increasing funding levels for k-12 schools and the University of California and the California State University systems. He also plans to expand the types of projects that Infrastructure Financing Districts may fund to include affordable housing, which is a proposal I am interested in as Chair of the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee.
I look forward to working with my colleagues, the Governor and the Senate to finalizing another on-time balanced budget.”
Assemblymember Ed Chau represents the 49th Assembly District, comprised of the communities of Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City and portions of Montebello, and South El Monte.
