The Candles Event
The 242-year-old San Gabriel Mission 6th Annual Candles for Claretians remembered the 102 Claretian Missionaries, thousands of Gabrieleno Indians and other people buried in its old cemetery with a candle lighting ceremony and brief prayer service on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
The Claretian Missionaries are named after St. Anthony Mary Claret and his Feast Day is Oct. 24. The candles were lit at on Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. with a brief prayer service about 5:30 p.m. and time allowed until 6:30 p.m. for visitors to remember everyone in the cemetery as the candles remained lit through St. Claret’s Feast Day of Oct. 24, announced San Gabriel Mission Pastor Rev. Bruce Wellems, CMF.
Winner of $7,500 SGM Fiesta Grand Prize Announced!
Leticia Martinez of Valinda won the $7,500 grand prize drawing at the San Gabriel Mission 242nd Annual Fiesta in September and was presented her check by San Gabriel Mission Business Manager Al Sanchez.
