“Why is the library important to you?”

The Monterey Park Library Foundation would like to invite you to participate in the Essay Contest to tell us why the library is important to YOU.  There will be cash prizes awarded to the winners.

ESSAY TOPIC: Why is the library important to you?

There will be two (2) categories awarded:  Participants who are under the age of 18 and Participants who are age 18 or older.

• Winners from EACH category will receive the following cash prizes:
  • First Place Winner – $300
  • Second Place Winner – $150
  • Third Place Winner – $50

Contest details:

• Submitted entries will be judged based on the following criteria:

• • • Originality
    • Creativity
    • Appropriateness to contest theme

• Deadline for submission: October 31, 2013 – all entries must be received by 6:00pm
• Essays must be submitted via E-mail –
• 500 words or less.  Typed entries must be no smaller than 12 font size.
• Please do not include your name in the Essay body.
• Please include a cover sheet.  Cover discontinuing paxil sheet must include:

    • Email address and Telephone number.
    • Please indicate age category on the cover sheet (based on age as of Oct 31):

Under 18 years old OR 18 years old or Over

• Entries not complying with all rules are subject to disqualification.
• Decisions of judges are final and binding.
• Winners will be awarded at the Monterey Park Library Foundation Christmas Party on

Saturday, December 07, 2013 – date may be changed at Foundation’s discretion.

Winners must be present to receive cash prize.

Monterey Park Library Foundation is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, or incomplete entries, or entries not received for any reason. Entries will not be acknowledged or returned. Entrants will not be notified if disqualified.  By entering, Entrant warrants that his or her entry (1) is original and does not infringe the intellectual-property rights of any third party, (2) has not been published in any medium, and (3) has not won an award. Participants must submit their entry under the appropriate Age category based on the individual’s age on October 31, 2013.  Proof of eligibility may be requested.  Individuals that do not meet the requirements may be disqualified without notice. All entries shall become the property of the Monterey Park Library Foundation.  By submitting an entry to this contest, you herby grant the Monterey Park Library Foundation the right to reprint or otherwise use, in whole or in part, your submission.
