Ed Chau’s Birthday Party

49th District Assemblymember Ed Chau welcomed Philip Yang to his birthday party and fundraiser held on September 5 at Ocean Star Restaurant.  Over 500 guests attended this kickoff for Ed Chau’s campaign for 2014.

Ed Chau and his wife, Candice Chau welcomed members of the news media before the event. He has four bills recently signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown: AB 267 that protects private conversation between client and lawyers referral service to be kept confidential; AB 1275 that clarifies the definition of “owner” for purposes of filing an unclaimed property claim; AB 984 that gives CalHFA the authority to directly fund down payment assistance loans done in conjunction with FHA first mortgages and AB 381 that allows the courts to award attorney’s cost and fees to seniors who fall victim to someone using a power of attorney in bad faith to commit elder financial abuse. He thanked all of his supporters for helping him in the November 2012 election. This year the government has a balanced budget with the passing of Proposition 30, which provides additional funds for education (K-12, county and state colleges). Funds will also be used to help the mental health and court systems. He is looking forward to working with everyone in the 49th District.

Community College Trustee Mike Eng was the Master of Ceremonies. He joked that people were here tonight for the free air conditioning. He introduced special guests Congressmember Judy Chu and State Controller John Chiang.  He also recognized the many elected officials from the 49th District that attended the party.

Candice Chau and her daughter, Caitlyn Chau enjoyed the special evening.

Monterey Park Councilmembers Anthony Wong and Peter Chan joined Ed Chau for his celebration.

Judy Chu wished Ed Chau a Happy Birthday! She met him 25 years ago. He was from humble beginnings. He is an attorney and served on the Montebello School Board. He now serves us on the 49th Assembly District. He is strong and never gives up. She puts her faith in Ed Chau. He will work for us in Sacramento. She thanked him for doing a great job for us.

John Chiang said he is here to celebrate Ed Chau’s birthday. He had been working with Mike Eng and now he works with Ed Chau. He suggested that people check his website to find your unclaimed property. He praised Ed Chau for working for the residents.  He is helping to improve California’s economy after the downturn in 2007.

Ed Chau thanked Mike Eng for being a great MC. He spoke about Judy Chu’s and Mike Eng’s endorsements of his campaign. They were instrumental in getting him elected to the Assembly. He thanked the audience for their support. He called his campaign polarizing. He spoke about his bills (AB 267, AB 1275, AB 984 and AB 38) that Governor Brown signed into law. He spoke abut some additional bills that he is working on to benefit the residents that include education, water recovery, housing, prevailing wages and language access to the courts. He works with Judy Chu, Mike Eng and John Chiang and all of the residents. He thanked the table sponsors for their support. He thanked his family and staff for their support.

Caitlyn Chau sang Happy Birthday with assistance from her father, Ed Chau and her mother, Candice Chau and the many elected officials surrounding the birthday cake.

The delicious multi-course birthday dinner ended with egg noodles that signify a long life. The evening was filled with good food and friendship.
