American Legion Auxiliary 90th Annual Convention
American Legion Auxiliary District 18 President Juliana Potter of Baldwin Park and her delegation returned from the 90th annual Department (State) Convention in Riverside recently, with many awards including Americanism, Children & Youth, Community Service, National Security, Public Relations, Membership, Poppy and Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation.
The Installation of the new Department of California President Norma DuVall of Monrovia and Vice President Pilar Reyes of Alameda, along with the 30 District Presidents and 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents from throughout the State of California, closed the Convention.
President Norma DuVall is a Life Member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of East Pasadena Unit 280, whose eligibility is her father, Marvin Richter of Texas who served in the U. S. Army during WWII. Her family has four generations in The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary spanning 50 years, and her son, PFC Austin DuVall is currently serving in the United States Marine Corps. Her motto is “Cherish the Past, Honor the Present, Envision the Future” and she has chosen an Hawaiian theme as she leads the Department of California for the 2009-2010 year. Professionally she is a licensed Fire and Casualty Insurance Broker-Agent with a Supervisory Manage- ment designation and has been involved in the insurance industry for 36 years. She is also a member of the Eight & Forty, Los Angeles County Salon 32, the American Legion Press Association, El Monte Moose Chapter 1321 and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Arcadia.
Newly elected officers of District 18 American Legion Auxiliary, with 14 Units located throughout the San Gabriel Valley, will be installed on July 20th, 7:30 p.m. at El Monte Post 261, 4542 N Peck, El Monte. President DeNyse Laugeson of El Monte will be installed, along with 1st Vice President Carol Velasquez and 2nd Vice President Cathy Pitkin of La Puente, Secretary Barbara Knight of Glendora, Treasurer Patty Martinez and Historian Monette Clark of La Verne,and Parliamentarian Odette Cuccaro of Monrovia. All interested in the American Legion Auxiliary are welcome to attend.
