Lions Club Breakfast
Monterey Park Police Chief Jim Smith manned the Egg Station where he scrambled eggs and fried eggs to order during the annual Lions Club Breakfast held on June 2 at the Lions Club Picnic Pavilion at Barnes Park.
This annual event is the major fundraiser for the club. The proceeds are used to screen the eyes of children attending the local elementary schools. The organization also collects old eyeglasses that are refurbished and donated to people in need.
Chris Reyes and Tom Cody flipped the delicious pancakes for the hungry guests. You can eat all the pancakes you wish at this event.
Student volunteers from Mark Keppel High School and the Monterey Park Police Explorers served the breakfast of orange juice, coffee, milk, eggs, ham and pancakes. Student volunteers from Damien High School flipped pancakes.
High school students have to serve hours of community service each year towards their graduation.
Longtime residents, new residents and their friends enjoyed good food and conversation on this beautiful Sunday morning. Councilmember Hans Liang and his wife Lani joined in this family tradition. Over 800 guests were served at this fundraiser.
Mayor Teresa Real Sebastian and her student friends were kept busy serving coffee.
White Canes are made by the membership in the Service Club. They are sold around the world to raise funds for eye care.
The Lions of Southern California Mobile Health Screening Unit IV was available for eye screening on the site.
