State Awards $160,000 to Monterey Park for Health and Sustainability Planning
The City of Monterey Park was awarded a competitive state grant to develop programs that promote a more healthy and sustainable community. Monterey Park residents are encouraged to participate in setting goals that will create those policies and programs.
The City will conduct community workshops, through a combination of traditional and technological methods, to gain an understanding of the issues that concern community members. Residents are asked to engage in these conversations to share their views and goals. Residents can read more about these plans and sign up for email notices by visiting the “Healthy & Sustainable Monterey Park” page on the City’s website or use this shortcut: http://tinyurl.com/healthy-sustainableMPK.
The goals, policies and programs will become new “elements,” or sections, of the City’s General Plan. The Healthy Community Element is expected to address topics such as access to healthy food, opportunities for physical activity, and safety. The Sustainable Community Element will address sustainable practices across multiple dimensions including transportation, energy conservation and more.
