Sophomore Tenia Sebastian placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in what was the lone highlight for the Pasadena City College track and field teams in the Southern California Finals meet Saturday at San Diego Mesa College.
Sebastian raced her season-best time of 1:03.08, but despite her efforts that mark is now the fifth fastest in the state going into the CCCAA State Championships. Sebastian scored all six of PCC women’s team points as the Lancers placed tied for 24th out of 32 teams that garnered points.
In the 5,000 meters, Elizabeth Lyons took 19th (19:24.21) and teammate Arielle Barragan-Steimer was 20th (19:33.85).
For the PCC men, the Lancers’ Caleb Wood grabbed eighth in the javelin (50.59 meters) and was 11th in the discus (42.41m). Khambrell Gomez finished 10th in the shot put (13.97m). As a team, the Lancers tallied six points (Luis Dorantes had five of those, taking fourth in the 10,000 meters during the SoCal Prelims last week) to place 23rd of 29 men’s team scores.
Dorantes and Sebastian move on to the CCCAA Championships at Cerritos College Friday-Saturday, May 18-19.
