Be Alert for Thieves Targeting Garden Ornaments in Monterey Park
Monterey Park is a community of beautifully landscaped homes and neighborhoods. However, due to a crime trend involving theft of potted plants, statues, and other garden ornaments, residents are encouraged to be on alert for individuals who are taking such items. Since May, there have been at least eight thefts reported to the police. These thefts have occurred in the following neighborhoods:
* 400 Block of South Chandler: A concrete bench was stolen from a front yard.
* 300 Block of South Chandler: An angel statue, St. Francis Statue, a love seat, and a 3 pc concrete bench were stolen from the front yard.
* 100 Block of South Moore Ave: Two potted topiary plants, a wood and iron bench, and a ceramic planter were stolen from the front porch at approximately 0330 am. (The suspect description is a Male Hispanic, 30-40 years with short, straight hair, medium build.)
* 1000 block of East Hellman Ave: Two shrubs were taken from the front yard of a residence.
* 2300 Block of Westcott Ave: 4 plants were taken from the front yard of a residence.
* 1100 Block of Cresthaven: A ceramic frog was taken from the front yard of a residence.
* 600 Block of W. Newmark Ave. A small yellow ceramic water fountain was taken from the front porch of a residence.
* 1800 Block of Kempton: Potted Orchids were stolen from the front porch of the residence.
Generally, these thefts are committed during late night or early morning hours. Be aware of suspicious subjects in your neighborhoods and report suspicious activity immediately to the Monterey Park Police by calling (626) 573-1311.
