MONTEREY PARK ANNOUNCES NEW FIRE CHIEF JIM BIRRELL
Monterey Park City Manager Paul Talbot announced today the permanent appointment of Acting Chief Jim Birrell as the new Fire Chief for the City of Monterey Park.
Chief Birrell’s career began with the Monterey Park Fire Department in 1983 as a new Firefighter. For the past 29 years, he has worked his way up the ranks as a Firefighter/Paramedic, Engineer, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief, and since 2010, Acting Fire Chief. He has also served the City as a Paramedic Coordinator and a Fire Service instructor.
Chief Birrell was raised in Downey, California and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies from Cal State Long Beach. He is currently working towards his Master’s Degree in Emergency Services Administration.
Chief Birrell has been married for over 34 years and has three sons and five grandchildren.
Chief Birrell welcomes this opportunity to serve our Community as Fire Chief and is looking forward to what the future holds for the City of Monterey Park.
