The Monterey Park Environmental Commission will be hosting its Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 21, 2012 on the front lawn of City Hall, 320 West Newmark Avenue, Monterey Park, CA from 9:00AM to 2:00PM. Exhibitors will include Athens Services, The Gas Company, Cal State LA, San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, US Green Building Council, Salvation Army, Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment (PACE), Global Energy Services, Bike SGV and more! A Salvation Army donation truck will also be on site to collect used clothing and furniture.

Reusable grocery bags, showerheads, garden mulch and other freebies will be given away. Energy Upgrade will hold a workshop on rebates and assistance available for home renovations at 10:00AM and PACE will hold a workshop on home energy savings at 11:00AM.

An alternative fueled vehicle showcase will also take place on the lawn to showcase high mileage, hybrid and electric vehicles to the community. The Chevy Volt, Honda FCX Clarity Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicle, and others will be on site.

A Community Bike Ride will precede the event at 7:00AM in front of the Library. City Council members will be again participating in this bike ride that was a huge success last year. Over 100 participants have already registered for this year’s ride. The 6-mile ride is mostly on flat course that is perfect for kids and beginners who want the experience of riding on the street. More advanced riders are invited to continue to ride beyond the family route through the scenic hills of Monterey Park. For more information and to register for the ride, please contact Amy Ho at amho@montereypark.ca.gov or (626) 307-1383.

City Council and other elected officials will kick off the Festival at 9:00AM in front of City Hall with an opening ceremony. All are welcome to join in the festivities to learn more about how residents and businesses can save money, live healthier and act more sustainably.
