FARMERS MARKET RETURN?

By Mona Raskin

Unfortunately, Monterey Park’s Farmers Market project was rather a short success a few years ago! One of the problems at the time was the location. It was at a small location situated on Garvey, between Lincoln and Garfield with very little parking space available for shoppers!

March 5th, 2012, the open air Farmers Market project was a topic at the city council meeting. The main problem was to seek an appropriate location for this attraction! This project can be an interesting and creative one for Monterey Park. It can lure shoppers from other cities to check it out, as well as help to increase our city’s revenue!

Open-air farmers Market can be an interesting and creative attraction. Especially now. Spring is in the air and there is nothing more pleasant and enjoyable than a stroll through the outdoors, while taking in the fresh smell of fruit, vegetables and pretty flowers! New apparel for the family, as well as jewelry can also be purchased at the Farmers Market!

One of the locations that was mentioned at the council was our city’s library on a day that would be available for this special event! Another location might be at Barnes Park with parking at the library’ parking area!

Whatever the location may be, I believe the Farmers Market project can be a successful and profitable event especially as we enter the Spring season.

This added new attraction could only bring a cheerful lift to an other

wise depressing mood on a variety of issues facing our city. Since we have had to

face and accept the unsightly electrical towers and their power cables and lines,

then we should be able to add some thing we the residents of Monterey Park truly

desire! Well, looking forward to seeing you all at a new open air Farmers Market!
