MAYHEM

By Mona Raskin

The month of May began with the annual celebration of Cinco de Mayo featuring south of the border music, dancing and food. In spite of a cloud of fear of catching the Swine flu, the usual crowd size of previous celebrations was the same.

Although, we were still quite concerned about the threat of the flu and were told to avoid crowds and enclosed areas, on May 10th, Mother’s Day people were still celebrating this special day with family picnics and dinners at their favorite restaurants. This year our family and the Bedol family, daughter Keri, son in law, Mark, granddaughter, Jessica and granddaughter, Laura met at their neighborhood restaurant for a lovely Mother’s Day dinner. It was a nice get-together, exchanging gifts, flowers and posing for photos.

Well, so far no mayhem! There was no mayhem on the 12th either, when a special lunch invitation to the ABC café on behalf of candidate and former Mayor of Monterey Park. Francisco Alonso spoke to his constituents and the press of his intentions to run for the now vacant congressional seat! He was sincere, honest, expressed his desire to work diligently and added his past outstanding experience in his leadership as mayor of our city. He would donate his entire salary to the city and his caring and generosity did not stop there. He continued to generously support the restructuring of our city’s library. The entire second floor wing and special room was named in his honor. In addition, Mr. Alonso always fought for his city’s interests, making sure that we retain our fire fighters, etc. Yes my friends, he surly deserves a crack at the congressional seat and we surly could use him!

May 19th is a special election for the congressional seat. Since there are 12ve candidates for this one seat, we must choose the most qualified one. In order to avoid any mayhem, the only choice, is number one on the list, Francisco Alonso!
