PARK TO BE NAMED IN HONOR OF BETH RYAN

Beth Ryan Park at Langley Center was dedicated on October 4, at Langley Center (400 W. Emerson Avenue). Under an umbrella of newly planted trees, elected officials, family and friends gathered to honor Recreation Superintendent Beth Ryan for her extraordinary service to the community. Over the years Beth Ryan’s name has been synonymous with the vibrant Senior Center that features trips and tours, weekly dances, a daily lunch program, plus dozens and dozens of classes and activities for Monterey Park senior citizens. Mrs. Ryan has also been the driving force in getting the center expanded five times, through her work with the Monterey Park Friends of Seniors organization. To honor this commitment to the community, the Monterey Park City Council unanimously aufblasbarer park voted in June to name the park in her honor.

The event also includes a Tree Memorial Ceremony to honor both Mrs. Ryan and former Mayor Benjamin “Frank” Venti in recognition of their service and accomplishments that are enjoyed today and will continue to be enjoyed by future generations.

Frank Venti was honored for his long time service to the community. He was elected to the Monterey Park City Council in 1999 and served as a City Council Member through March 2011. He served three terms as Mayor – 2000-2001, 2005-2006, and 2008-2009. He is the current President of the Monterey Park Friends of the Seniors, a founder and Board of Directors member of the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of East Los Angeles, a member of the San Gabriel Valley Community Justice Council, Commissioner of Los Angeles County Commission on Local Governmental Services, and a Past President of the Independent Cities Association. He also has been involved with numerous community programs such as TAG AWAY Graffiti, and the annual July 4th Celebration, plus fundraising efforts for the victims of 9-11 and Hurricane Katrina.
