MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE AT LIVE OAK MEMORIAL PARK
The San Gabriel Valley Allied Veterans’ Council will again present a special program on Memorial Day, May 25th, l0:00 a.m., at Life Oak Memorial Park, 200 East Duarte Rd., Monrovia. Major John Massie, Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, will pipe in and retire the Color Guards from the various veteran organizations participating. Lt. Col. Charles Wiest, Civil Air Patrol and President of the Council will introduce the speaker, David R. Brandley, Petty Officer 1st Class
(retired) who will bring a special Memorial Day address. Special guests include Mayors Mary Ann Lutz, Monrovia, John Wou, Arcadia and John Fasana, Duarte. Music will be provided by the Monrovia High School Band under the direction of Daniel Agmagallanes and there will be a flyover by the Condor Squadron. Blue Star Families and Gold Star Mothers will be recognized, and wreaths will be presented by the veteran organizations belonging to the Council. A special wreath in honor of the veterans of WWI presented by Lorraine Mohan of Monrovia, and Civil Air Patrol Cadets place American Flags at each veteran’s gravesite. Inflatable Water Slide The public is invited and encouraged to attend to honor all veterans of all wars and conflicts. The San Gabriel Valley Allied Veterans Council was formed in 1935 by four veteran organizations, Monrovia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2070, Monrovia American Legion Post 44, Disabled American Veterans and the United Spanish American Veterans. Programs are planned each year for Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and each year contact is made with families having loved ones at the cemetery and they are given the opportunity to order flowers to be placed at selected gravesites.
