Chess Club
Members of the U.S. Chess Federation play two of their events in Monterey Park.
This year they played the Los Angeles County Championship at Sierra Vista Park Clubhouse on May 3.
In December they have a chess tournament to honor “Joseph Ileto” a former Monterey Park resident. His mother still lives in the city.
Mr. Ileto was a U. S. Mail carrier who was gunned down on the job in Los Angeles. It was determined to be a hate crime.
Randy Hough, Secretary of the U. S. Chess Federation said bouncy castle for sale that the city charged the players to use one of our city facilities for the first time this year. The federation paid $29 an hour for 26 hours that included insurance.
Mr. Hough stated that he attended a meeting with other groups that use the city’s parks for their events. The city has decided to charge local clubs and groups to use the city’s facilities. He was surprised that the sports groups don’t have to pay for insurance.
Mr. Hough said at the $29 an hour price they might not be able to afford the chess tournament to honor “Joseph Ilito” in December.
He was appealing his case to the City Council.
