Historical Honorary Grand Marshal City Clerk Dave Barron; Committee Chairman Vince Chang; Councilmember Mitch Ing; Miss Monterey Park Li-wen Tsai; Mayor Pro Tem David Lau; Princess Jasmine Sunda; Mayor Betty Tom Chu; Miss Jr. World Queen Verena; Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian; Carolina Castro, granddaughter of Grand Marshal Ray Villalobos; Councilmember Anthony Wong; Miss Teen Taiwan World Queen Amanda Cheng; Miss Teen Taiwan U S Queen Michelle Huang; Miss Preteen Taiwanese U S Queen Connie Mach and Grand Marshal American Legion Commander Ray Villalobos celebrated Monterey Park’s 95th Birthday from May 19-22.
Mr. Chang welcomed all to the city’s birthday party. He thanked the carpa hinchable members of the Women’s Club for providing breakfast. He introduced all the special guests that included Mayor Betty Tom Chu, Mayor Pro Tem David Lau, Councilmembers Mitch Ing, Teresa Real Sebastian and Anthony Wong, Honorary Grand Marshal City Clerk Dave Barron, Grand Marshal Ray Villalobos and City Manager Paul Talbot. He introduced the committee members and thanked them for their hard work on this event.
Mayor Chu welcomed all to Monterey Park’s Birthday. Monterey Park is a city of diversity who came together to celebrate. She thanked all of the past and present city officials for making our city an exemplary city. The young people are the leaders of the future. She thanked all of the pioneers for their service to the city. Have a wonderful parade.
Mayor Pro Tem Lau welcomed all to the great American city of Monterey Park. We are here to celebrate the city’s birthday. He congratulated Ray Villalobos and Dave Barron, our 22-year City Clerk. We are a diverse community who works together in peace and harmony. We have a large number of volunteers. It is one of the best cities. Enjoy the parade. Let’s celebrate.
Councilmember Ing welcomed all to the parade. He loves a parade. It is the city’s 95th birthday. He would like the city to have a float in the Rose Parade to celebrate the city’s 100 birthday in 2016. Have an enjoyable parade.
Councilmember Real Sebastian said she was excited to be here at the 95th Birthday Parade. She will be walking in the parade route. She is happy to celebrate our birthday. Enjoy.
Councilmember Wong greeted the crowd with Happy Birthday Monterey Park! Our city is still financially healthy. Council is joining together to celebrate Monterey Park with the parade.
City Clerk Barron welcomed all to this party. He wants to celebrate the 100th Birthday. He thanked the Historical Society for making him the Honorary Grand Marshal.
Grand Marshal American Legion Post Commander Ray Villalobos welcomed all to the parade. He and his granddaughter, Carolina Castro are excited to be here.
The Annual Play Days Parade on Garvey Blvd. began with the Stars and Stripes.
The Lions Dancers and the Dragon Dancers marched down the road bring good luck to all attending the celebration.
Grand Marshal Ray Villalobos and Carolina Castro, his granddaughter waved to all. They were very excited to participate in the parade.
Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian and her family and friends walked the parade route.
Councilmember Mitch Ing walked the parade route with Derek Ing, his son and Gloria Ing, his wife.
Honorary Grand Marshal Dave Barron rode down the street in style. He used the mike in the car to wish everyone a Happy Birthday.
Crystal Buck as Little Sippo, the Clown Princess waved to everyone. She participates in the parade each year in memory of her grandfather, Zippo the Clown, who marched in the parade many years.
Members of Rancho La Launga pranced down the way. They performed to the delight of everyone.
The parade included bands from Montebello High School, San Gabriel High School, Mark Keppel High School and Monterey Park/Alhambra United AYSO.
Members of the Monterey Park Angeles Sports teams, Cub Scout Pack 329 from Brightwood Elementary School and the Boys and Girls Club proudly walk down Garvey waving to the spectators.
There were classic cars, antique cars, movie star cars, beauty queens, dancers, drill teams, horses, antique fire truck and more. Over 146 groups participated in the city’s Play Days Parade.
Sparky, the firedog greeted everyone who attended the Fire Station One’s Open House. Children lined up to dress up in real fire gear to pose with Sparky. Their parents were provided safety handouts and a chance to see up close all of our fire department equipment.
Finally the moment of truth when the judges provided the points for each entry. Councilmember Teresa Real Sebastian and City Clerk Dave Barron handed out the trophies to each of the winners.
Mark Keppel High School Band won The Mayor’s Award.
Montebello High School Band won the Drill Team Award.
Walnut High School Band won the Sweepstake Award.
The party included a four-day carnival held at Barnes Park. Residents, friends and neighbors enjoyed games, rides, delicious food and fun.
