Monterey Park, CA—Sierra Mar District Business and Professional Women (BPW) selected Krystle Lisenby, who is the Special Events/Campaign Coordinator for the West San Gabriel Boys and Girls Club, as its “Young Careerist for 2008/09.” The Sierra Mar District (which includes the local organizations in East San Gabriel Valley, East Los Angeles-Montebello, El Monte, Monrovia, Pasadena and Rialto) announced her selection at their April 18th annual conference in Covina. including the quarterly newsletter. Previously, she was an AmeriCorps worker from 2005-06. She is also a member and Past President of the Orange County Chapter of the Directors of Volunteers in Agencies and the Rosemead Kiwanis.
The Young Careerist Program of BPW recognizes women and men between the ages of 21 and 35 who have been in their profession or business for at least a year. Candidates first have to win at the local level, which Lisenby did in March, to proceed to the District level. The winners at the District levels go on to compete at the State level. Competition consists of a written application with including a letter on an item on the BPW platform addressed to one of the State’s two Senators, an interview and a four-minute, prepared speech. The Young Careerist can select from a list of about ten topics for the speech.
