The Easter Bunny welcomed residents to the 67th Annual San Gabriel Kiwanis Club and Parks &Recreation Pancake Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt at Smith Park on April 23.

The cooks were busy preparing delicious pancake and sausage breakfasts for the hungry guests.  Longtime resident and businesswoman Dondi Adkins was joined by her son, granddaughter and great-grandson for their family tradition to begin their Easter celebration with the friends and neighbors at the park.

Members of the Gabrielino High School Jazz Band entertained the guests are they enjoyed their breakfast.

Members of the Key Club helped with the breakfast and passed out blue and yellow balloons to the little guests.

Members of the Police Department and Fire Department passed out badges to the guests.

A police car and fire truck was on the site for the residents to check out.   Some residents took pictures of their children inspecting the vehicles.

Mrs. Easter Bunny welcomed all of her friends to the party. She was waiting for the famous pancake races to start.

Children from the ages of 7 up to seniors had a chance to participate in the race while carrying a pancake on a spatula as they ran to the finish line. Local merchants donated the prizes.

Brandon Chen is this year’s Grand Prize Winner. He was first in his age group 12 to 16 and competed with all of the other first place winners of all of the races.

The winners of the races were Sean Ong, Hiroto Shegeta, Yuta Horii, Jennifer Del Rio, Sarah Yrbarra, Akane Horri, Brandon Chen, Giovanni Gonzalez, Donathan Duong, Francella Fierro, Luz Hernandez, Ana Arellano, Antonio Ortiz, Anthony Reyez, Willy Vazquez, Cecile Vazquez, Amanda Macias, Van Chen, Oscar Qudoba, Paul Niu, Erika Rivera, Yoke Liew and Sue Lien.

The much-anticipated Egg Hunt was opened to children up to six years old. They raced on to the field and picked up as many plastic eggs they could carry in their baskets or hands.  Each egg was filled with candy or stickers.

Children received a plush bunny as their prize.

This breakfast in the major fund raiser for the Kiwanis Club in San Gabriel.
