APARTMENT HOUSE FIRE IN MONTEREY PARK
At 06:11 am, on March 3 the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 210 N. Alhambra. The first arriving fire units made a quick initial attack and had a knockdown of the fire at 06:30.
One adult resident sustained injuries from smoke and heat and was transported by paramedics to the smoke from the fire to Garfield Medical Center for evaluation. The fire was extinguished with assistance from the Los Angeles County, Alhambra, South Pasadena, and San Gabriel Fire Departments. No fire personnel were injured during the fire attack. Initial cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. The total fire loss is being estimated at one hundred and fifty thousand dollars for the structure and fifty thousand dollars for contents.
GARFIELD MEDICAL CENTER FIRE
At 07:21 am, on March 3rd the Monterey Park Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 525 N. Garfield at the Garfield Medical Center. First arriving units experienced heavy smoke conditions on the 3rd and 4th floors.
Hospital staff had begun evacuating all patients on those floors. A total of 57 patients from the rd floor and 31 patients from the 4th floor were evacuated. Of those 18 patients were evaluated and transported to outlying facilities. No injuries were reported. The fire was contained to the 3rd floor with some damage also to the 4th floor.
More than 50 firefighters from Los Angeles County Fire Department, Alhambra Fire Department, San Gabriel Fire Department, Pasadena Fire Department and South Pasadena Fire Department, assisted Monterey Park Fire Department in extinguishing the fire and addressing the needs of the patients.
Initial cause of the fire and dollar loss is under investigation at this time.
