American Legion Auxiliary District 18 Meeting
American Legion Auxiliary District 18 President DeNyse Laugeson of El Monte will
conduct the regular monthly meeting Monday, April 18th, 7:30 p.m., at Pasadena American Legion Post 13, 131 N Marengo, Pasadena. April is Children & Youth Month in the Auxiliary, as well as the “Month of the Military Child.” Children of America’s finest are never forgotten, but oftentimes put in the backseat of the driving war effort because the effect of a parent’s military service upon the child is unheard. These children are listened to and seen as heroes by the American Legion Auxiliary – the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization. Children & Youth Chairman Liz Broughton of Temple City states the month’s theme has been created to recognize and pay tribute to military children for their commitment, sacrifice and unconditional support shown to their parents, our men and women servicing in the military.
Community Service Chairman Mary Dugan of West Covina will information on the Community Service Project decided upon for this year, and Past President Parley Chairman Julie Potter of Baldwin Park will finalize plans for the luncheon honoring former service women and those currently serving in the military. The combined Units in the District will host the potluck luncheon at Abraham Lincoln Post 241, 4725 Maine, Baldwin Park on April 16th, 11:00 a.m. Guests are promised an afternoon of great food, camaraderie and fine entertainment.
VA&R Chairman Margaret Quinones of La Puente urges members to continue cooking, sewing and other “home projects” to benefit our veterans. She will report on the “Fisher Houses”, now located at VA medical facilities at West Los Angeles, Palo Alto, Travis Air Force Base and San Diego. A Fisher House is a “home away from home “ for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers.
