Fire Service Day Held on May 18 at Fire Station 61
Monterey Park Fire Station celebrated 100 years of service to the city.
The Lions Club joined in the celebration with their Famous Pancake Breakfast served with Scrambled Eggs and Sausage.
Paramedic Ambulance from Station 61 was on display for the residents to inspect.
A Fire Engine from Station 62 was on display for the residents to inspect.
Fire Department Gator 2 was displayed for the residents to inspect.
Urban Search and Rescue Truck was displayed for the residents to inspect.
Monterey Park’s 1924 Fire Truck was displayed for the residence to see just have far our fire engines have evolved.
The Governor’s Office of Emergence Services truck was also displayed for the residents to inspect.
Monterey Park’s CERT trailer was available to teach the residents what to do in case of an emergency.
Monterey Park’s Fire Department was out in full force to celebrate the day.
Young Fire Fighters wearing red helmets enjoyed climbing a ladder, pulling hoses and putting out a fire with real water.

Employees and guests kept dunking a firefighter in the tank of very cold water much to the delight of the crowd.

Interim Fire Chief Chris Thompson said today we are celebrating 100 years of service to Monterey Park. He introduced Elected Officials including Mike Fong, Peter Chan, Mike Eng,
Thomas Wong, Vinh Ngo, Jose Sanchez, Henry Lo, Maychelle Yee and Amy Lee to the guests.
He thanked the city staff and the fire personnel for celebrating this wonderful event.
Mayor Thomas Wong said the city will be here to celebrate in another 100 years. We are helping to keep our community safe. He thanked our fire department and our police department for their service to our community.
Mayor Pro Tem Vinh Ngo said Monterey Park has been around for 108 years and our fire department is 100 years old. We empower our residents to help us keep our community safe. He thanked the city staff and the fire department employees for this special event.
Councilmember Henry Lo said we love our fire fighters. We stand with them.
Councilmember Jose Sanchez said our firefighters make our city safe. We are proud of them. We have three fire stations. He thanks the parents for bring their children here to enjoy our fire service day.

The guests enjoyed celebrating the birthday by eating some birthday cake.
The party included the Famous Hot Dog Lunch cooked by the firefighters, Cotton Candy, Popcorn and more.
The event ended with the firefighters using the Jaws of Life to rescue trapped people in a car crash.
