WHITTIER LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS PRESIDENT MARGO REEG TO SPEAK AT SIERRA MAR DISTRICT BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S WINTER CONFERENCE

Margo Reeg, President of the Whittier League of Women Voters, will talk about “The Importance of Voting in Primary Elections and Finding the Information To Be a Well-Informed Voter” at the Winter Conference of the Sierra Mar District of Business and Professional Women on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2009 S. Garfield Avenue, Monterey Park. Registration is at 8:45 a.m. with the meeting starting at 9:00 a.m. Reeg will be speaking before lunch. The conference and luncheon is open to all interested people. Registration is $15, but there is no registration cost for guests. The cost of the box lunch is $15. Reeg has been a member of the League of Women Voters for more than 50 years. She has held Whittier League Offices since 1979 including several terms as President. She went on to become Government Director on the California League Board from 1995-99. As Vice-President for Youth Services for the LWV-LAC Board, Reeg was instrumental in producing the “Voters’ Guide.” She presented Ballot Briefings and conducted judicial forums and interviews. She was President of the League from 2004-06, and since 2007 she has been a Consultant for LWV on voting rights. She also serves as a VotersEdge.org local coordinator for Los Angeles County.

The CFBPW State Representative will be Denise Luckhurst, CFBPW Finance Chair. Luckhurst is a long-time member of Burbank Business and Professional Women (BPW) and is currently serving as Treasurer for the Valley Sunset BPW District. Luckhurst is a consulting engineer providing management services to the bio/pharmaceutical industry. Her BA in Chemistry and Zoology is from Pomona College, and her BS and MS in Chemical Engineering is from the University of Southern California.

Sally McMahon, President of Sierra Mar BPW District, will lead a discussion of the California BPW’s Public Policy Statement, including updates for it, along with a discussion of possible Focus Issues for California BPW for 2024-25.

Sierra Mar District is based in the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys and is part of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women (CFBPW). The organization is a member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs (NFBPWC) and BPW International. BPW has been advocates for women’s issues for more than 103 years.

The mission of Sierra Mar District of the California Federation of Business and Professional Women is “to promote and support equity for working women in all phases of their lives and to promote personal empowerment and professional development.” Our objectives are “to advocate on state and national legislative issues of importance to women, to promote personal and professional development for women and to foster connections among women to promote BPW and its members.” Membership is open to both men and women who support this mission and these objectives. Those who are members also belong to NFBPWC and BPW International.
