Memorial Hearts to be Displayed at the MPK Hope Community Resiliency Center

Memorial hearts honoring the eleven victims of the January 21, 2023 Monterey Park mass shooting will be transported this week from City Hall to be displayed at the MPK Hope Community Resiliency Center located at the Sierra Vista Park Community Center at 311 N Rural Drive, Monterey Park, CA 91755.

The MPK Hope Community Resiliency Center provides assistance and aid to survivors of the shooting, connects residents to resources to support their mental health and well-being, and supports community members in healing. MPK Hope is a cooperative effort between Chinatown Service Center and other community organizations working together to facilitate the healing and rebuilding of the families, individuals and communities affected by the tragedy.

The hearts were originally part of the collection of flowers, photos and other mementos that collected at Monterey Park City Hall honoring the victims and survivors following the shooting. Since the incident, the hearts have been displayed outside of the main entry way of City Hall and are exposed to various weather conditions. Displaying the hearts inside the MPK Hope Community Resiliency Center will protect the hearts from the elements and allows center visitors to have a place to reflect and remember the victims. A private rededication ceremony for victims’ families and survivors will be held at the Community Resiliency Center to mark the transfer.

Beginning Friday, October 6, members of the public may view the hearts at the MPK Hope Community Resiliency Center during operating hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
