Monterey Park’s Lions Pancake Breakfast and Fire Service Day

The Lions Club Banner was displayed on May 20th at Fire Station One during the morning event held in Monterey Park.

Members of the Lions Club cooked pancakes and grilled sausages for the hungry residents.

Members of the Lions Club served the delicious breakfast cafeteria style to approximately 800 residents and their friends who stopped by to enjoy a delicious breakfast. They were seated at the long tables in the fire station. It was old home week as many of the residents had not seen each other since the beginning of the Pandemic.

Monterey Park Fire Department displayed their fire engines and CERT trailer for approximately 900 residents to inspect them and see their life saving equipment.

Former Mayor Hans Liang and his wife, Lani Liang joined the crowd to enjoy the day.

Fire Chief Matt Hallock volunteered to sit in the Dunk Tank as children of all ages tried to hit the ball to see him being dunked.

Firefighters cooked up the delicious hot dog lunch served with chips, soft drinks or cold water to the residents seated at the long tables.

Young firefighters dressed in turnout coats and helmets picked up a ladder, hammered on a roof, carried a hose and put out a fire to the delight of their parents and the firefighters.

Monterey Park resident May May Lee joined the Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong, Councilmember Vinh Ngo and Councilmember Henry Lo  waiting to watch the firefighters use the “Jaws of Life”.

Firefighters Fox, Walkfield, Valdez and Caccortori used the “Jaws of Life” on a car that was damaged in a crash. They treated the empty car as an emergency accident site.

The residents watched each step of the destruction of the car with the “Jaws of Life”, that the firefighters used to save lives.

Statement from the Monterey Park Fire Department: Moving in this direction, and through the hard work and efforts of the fire personnel, the City has achieved a Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating of a Class 1 by the Insurance Services Offices (ISO). Out of 33,000 fire departments in the United States, Monterey Park is one of 132 agencies that has achieved this designation.
