Public Works Open House in Monterey Park
A banner welcomed Monterey Park residents to join the city’s employees in our Public Works Department’s Open House on May 25th in the City Yard.
Memo Chavez was the Master of Ceremonies. He welcomed all of the guests to enjoy the delicious food, cool beverages, hot coffee and to visit the various booths manned by city employees and other vendors.
Athens Services employees manned the grill as they cooked up hamburgers, cheese burgess and hot dogs. They served the food with chips, cold water or soft drinks.
City employees and guests enjoyed playing Teqball. (Editor’s note: Teqball is a ball sport that is played on a curved table, combining elements of sepak takraw and table tennis. Back and forth, the players hit a football with any part of the body except arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game, or between four players as a doubles game.)
The city is working to acquire two Teqball tables to be installed in two of our parks in the near future.
City employees were serving popcorn to the guests.
WCA Tree Service was handing out tree saplings to the crowd.
Starbucks employees served coffee to the residents during the event.
Members of our Public Works Department and Parks Department were on hand to answer any questions from the residents.
Members of the Monterey Park Human Resources had a booth to advise the residents that the city was looking to hire more employees.
Members of the Recreation and Community Services had a booth advising the residents of upcoming events.
Members of the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District were on the site to explain how to save water every day.
Members of the Monterey Park Water District displayed the new water pipes that are being used to replace our old water pipes.
Some of our large equipment that services our city were on display for the residents to inspect.
Athens Services mini trash truck was parked on the site since Athens was one of the hosts of the party.
Members of Athens Services had a booth to explain all of their services to our community.
A very large American flag was displayed over the Public Works Yard.
Councilmember Henry Lo, Councilmember Vinh Ngo and City Treasurer Amy Lee joined the crowd at the celebration honoring our employees of our Public Works Department.
Memo Chavez thanked the residents for attending his special event. He also thanked all of the vendors for their participation.
