Monterey Park Woman’s Club
A picture of Marilyn Monroe wearing diamonds was displayed at their Annual Fundraising Fashion Show and Luncheon that was held on April 29th at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello.
Their theme was “Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend”.
The event was attended by approximate 190 guests who were seated at tables that displayed “Diamonds” and Hersey’s Kisses keeping the same theme.
Scott Wand played an electronic keyboard to entertain the guests before the luncheon.
Some guests purchased raffle tickets to take a chance to win the gift basket of their dreams.
Congressmember Judy Chu posed for a picture with Councilmember Vinh Ngo, Carol Sullivan and Vicki.
Theresa Amador welcomed all of the guests to the Monterey Park Woman’s Club Fashion Show.
Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong welcomed the group to this event. The club supports our local communities.
He led our Flag Salute.
Fire Chief Matt Hallock led the Inspiration. He thanked the guests for attending this event. He spoke about the Pandemic that cancelled our events. He also spoke about the January 21st tragedy. We are grieving with the families and friends. We must treat each other with kindness and love. We should look forward with hope and courage. We are stronger together. We will create a better community for all of us.
Theresa Amador thanked all of the members of the San Gabriel Valley’s Woman’s Clubs for the assistance. Thank you for coming.
She introduced Mayor Pro Tem Thomas Wong, Councilmember Vinh Ngo, Councilmember Yvonne Yiu, Councilmember Henry Lo, former Mayor Mike Eng, former City Clerk Pauline Lemire, Police Chief Scott Wiese, Fire Chief Matt Hallock. We work together. She thanked the Fire and Police Departments for their service to our city.
She introduced City Librarian Diana Garcia who has updated our library into the future.
She introduced Larry Sullivan, who is a member of the Lions Club in Monterey Park.
Club President Sandy Hidalgo welcomed all to our fashion show. Our funds helped the residents during the Pandemic. She thanked the committee for this show. They made this event possible.
She announced the April Birthdays of members: Pauline Lemire who is 91 years old and Barbara Rush who is 99 years old.
The guests sang “Happy Birthday” to both of the ladies.

Theresa Amador announced the guest speaker Congressmember Judy Chu who lives in Monterey Park. She is married to Mike Eng. She provided a brief list of Judy Chu’s political history to the guests.
Judy Chu thanked the Woman’s Club which was founded over 108 years ago. They provide people with funds. They raise funds to meet the community needs. Last year they raised approximate $5,000,000 to help the community. She thanked all of the members of the Woman’s Club.
She spoke about the January 21st tragedy in Monterey Park. She helped our community to get the resources that we needed to help our police and fire departments. She thanked out Monterey Park Police and Fire Fighters and asked the crowd to applaud for them.
She spoke about all of the aid that we received from the Federal and State governments.
She spoke about the various bills that the Federal and State elected officials are planning to help reduce gun violence and homeless in our country.
She spoke of her plans to provide funds to rebuild Fire Station #51 located next to City Hall.
Judy Chu said we women now have a seat at the table in Washington, DC as we have 153 women serving in Congress or in the Senate.
