Issa, Bipartisan Colleagues Introduce Innovative Legislation to Address Child Care Needs of Police Officers

“Allows brave men and women on the front lines to be both parents and police.”

On April 19,  Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) today joined bipartisan colleagues to introduce legislation that addresses the specialized child care needs of law enforcement officers and their families. The Providing Child Care for Police Officers Act was introduced by Rep. Scott Peters (CA-50), with Rep. Issa, Rep. David Valadao (CA-22) and Rep. Josh Harder (CA-9) as co-leads on this legislation.

“We have a responsibility to provide our police officers with the tools, training, and equipment they need to safeguard our streets and protect our communities,” said Issa. “This bill represents a creative and innovative approach to not only advance law and order everywhere it is needed, but also allow these brave men and women on the front lines to be both parents and police.”

The Providing Child Care for Police Officers Act, authorizes $24 million in funding for each of the next five fiscal years under the ChildCare Development Grant Program, sets aside 20 percent of the total grant funding for police departments employing fewer than 200 officers, and requires HHS to report to Congress the grant recipients, corresponding law enforcement agencies, and employee retention and recruitment data.

Issa: We Need to Know Where AI is Going and How it Can Hurt Us

On May 9, Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) spoke extensively to Fox News Digital about the development and understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and the need for America — including the Congress — to gain a better understanding of the potential and risks of AI technology.

“We all need to get educated enough to be part of the solution and not be taken out of fear or lack of knowledge,” Issa said.

Rep. Issa also added that this is similar to previous regulatory challenges, but that China poses a unique concern:

“It’s not that we’re in competition with China, it’s that we’re in competition with China, and our competition is being stolen by China,” Issa said. “So, we have to work in new and better ways to make sure that our innovation belongs to, if you will, the free market. And their innovation has to compete with their own people and not use the backs and minds of ours.”

Issa: The Congress Took Charge of Our Illegal Immigration Crisis the Same Day Joe Biden’s Policy Completely Collapsed

On May 11,  Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) issued the following statement following the passage of H.R. 2: The Secure the Border Act.

“On his very first day in office, Joe Biden opened the nation’s borders and sent an unmistakable message to the world that America’s immigration laws would no longer be enforced. As a result, five million illegals have now crossed our border, there is an unprecedented rise in child and human trafficking, and we are enduring the deadliest drug crisis in our history.

“Biden has also betrayed our border agents by not letting them do their jobs. He wants them to be Uber drivers for illegal immigrants, taking them where they want to go.

“Republicans rose to the occasion today by passing the Secure the Border Act, which will hire new Border Patrol agents, enhance border enforcement technology, resume construction on border infrastructure, and end the Biden policy of catch and release. It should become the law of the land.”

Darrell Issa is the Representative of California’s 48th Congressional District. The District encompasses the central and eastern parts of San Diego County and a portion of Riverside County, including the communities of Fallbrook, Valley Center, Ramona, Escondido, Santee, Lakeside, Poway, Temecula, Murrieta, and the mountain and desert areas of the San Diego-Imperial County line. Issa served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform from 2011-2015.
